Suraj Subedi is a writer, playwright, poet, and cultural critic from Nepal. He is the founder of The Asian Writers, a creative writing platform nurturing new literary voices from Asia. Subedi has authored and adapted several plays for the Nepali stage, including Palpasa Café, based on Narayan Wagle’s war novel; The Confessions, co-adapted from Jagadish Ghimire’s Sabitri; and Private is Political, a local retelling of The Vagina Monologues. His biography of the rock band 1974 AD, chronicling their rise against the backdrop of modern Nepali history, is set to be published in 2025.

As a journalist and critic, he has written over 100 essays, longform features, and reviews, including 50+ film essays exploring global cinema through a Nepali lens. His writing has appeared in major Nepali publications such as Setopati, Shilapatra, and MakaluKhabar, and his work has been recognized within Nepal’s theatre, literature, and music communities.

He has moderated panels at the Nepal Literature Festival, Illam Literature Festival, and the Nepal International Theatre and Film Festivals, and served as Creative Editor at MakaluKhabar. In 2023, he taught over 49 students across three cohorts at The Asian Writers, mentoring emerging voices in personal narrative.

Born in the eastern hills of Nepal and raised during the Maoist insurgency, Subedi began writing through displacement, first in letters, later in poems. He holds a Master’s degree in English Literature from Tribhuvan University.
